Position Summary The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) is a subcontractor for a government contract with Vectrus that provides health care services for Troop Medical Clinic (TMC), Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar (ASG-QA-TMC) APO AE 09898.
The Clinical Psychologist position shall coordinate with the Director of Health Services for delivering appropriate services and treatment to authorized health care beneficiaries. He/She will serve as an advisor on boards and committees; in conferences and other activities involving health care on Camp As Sayliyah.
The Clinical Psychologist position is responsible for the delineation, design and application of psychological procedures and techniques for patient care, procedural documentation, consultation and organizational development, research, and educational training consistent with DID, MTF, and American Psychological Association guidelines. Basic competencies are expected in diagnostic interviewing, behavioral assessment, psychological treatment of behavioral health conditions, and the use of psychological testing/psychodiagnostic testing for the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological disorders.

Assist and participate in special event informational seminars
Pain assessments through the use of behavioral health measures, symptoms checklists, and personality assessments; treatment to enhance coping with or control over pain, including chronic back pain, headache, or severe burn; and, pain control interventions to help reduce pain perception and improve coping mechanisms of patients through the use of hypnosis, biofeedback, supportive psychotherapy, and cognitive interventions.
Development and implementation of strategies to alter the occurrence of health- compromising behaviors, including behavior-change programs for behavioral risk factors such as smoking, weight and stress. Provision of outpatient group therapy/psycho-educational groups in areas of stress management, relaxation training, smoking cessation, pain management, weight reduction, assertive/social skills training, and mastery of anxiety and panic. Provision of stress reduction interventions including, but not limited to, progressive muscle relaxation, in-vivo desensitization, and visual imagery.
Consultation and program development regarding patient compliance with accepted medical treatment.
Consultation and workshops to medical units which may address issues exemplified by the following topics: developing staff morale and reducing staff burnout, enhancing organizational communication, and reduction of conflict in work/role performance.
Consultation to develop worksite health-promotion programs and management of occupational stress.
Cognitive and behavioral training to overcome physical handicaps after trauma, debilitating medical condition or use of prosthetic devices.
Treatment for reduction of fears associated with medical and dental treatments- including needles, anesthesia, childbirth, or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures.
Behavioral interventions to control symptoms such as vomiting with chemotherapy, scratching with neurodermatitis, vasospasms with Raynaud’s phenomenon, or diarrhea with irritable bowel syndrome.
Psychological assessment of candidate viability for prosthetic devices (where psychological factors beyond functional increase in movement is noted), surgery, back surgery, organ transplantation, in vitro fertilization, or oocyte donation.
Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

EducationRequired to hold a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Psychology Doctor (Psy.D.) degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA approved psychology program (or a program acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army). Shall have completed an APA approved internship in clinical psychology (or an internship acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army).
Have and maintain a current license to practice psychology in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Have completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical health psychology or have completed a minimum of one (1) year of supervised experience in clinical health psychology acceptable to the MTF, which included training in medical, pharmacological, and psychophysiological interventions in pain control
Must have a US passport
Experience Have a minimum of two (2) years post-doctoral experience (inclusive of fellowship) within the past five (5) years in the independent practice of psychology in the area of the clinical/behavioral health psychology, preferably in a Government setting such as a Department of Defense (DOD) or Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) MTF.
Prior experience working with physicians providing pain management or other medical psychological services is preferred.
Have (or be eligible and willing to apply for) diplomat status to American Board of Professional Psychology in the area of Health Psychology
Have knowledge and experience using Electronic Medical Record system, preferably have experience working with AHLTA.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of professional standards and ethics regarding the delivery of clinical/behavioral health psychology programs
Demonstrate computer literacy sufficient to operate a personal computer utilizing psychological test, and Microsoft software programs, and possess basic typing skills sufficient to efficiently produce the psychologist’s own reports and correspondence
Have and maintain a current certification in basic life support (BLS).
