Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. Its signature co-op program is the backbone of the University’s educational model.
Due to increased growth in the Khoury College of Computer and Information Sciences campuses on the west coast, we are seeking a candidate who will focus on the creation of co-op/internship assignments to provide work experiences for the Align and Masters students. This is a newly created position. He/she will be located in Seattle and travel extensively on the west coast and periodically accompany the Dean and/or the Development Team to employers. He/she will research new co-op opportunities and primarily develop new positions for Align (see below: About the Align Program), an MS in CS for people who did not study CS as undergraduates (see below for a description) and for traditional Master’s students. He/she will follow up on employer leads, document outreach and results and seamlessly refer co-op company prospects to the appropriate co-op coordinator.
In addition, this position will be the “outward face” of the Northeastern University west coast regional campuses to include Seattle, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Vancouver. S/he will collaborate with the college advancement staff and co-op job development teams to identify leads to build company relationships for co-op, fulltime and development lead generation; attend relevant conferences and local events to increase campus brand awareness; and, manage, implement regional Career Fairs and workshops. In addition, intra-regional cooperation/collaboration will be extremely important to support coordinated external relations.
The Asst. Director Co-op and Career Design will track participation in events, employer outreach and outcomes. Tracking student employment (co-op/internship/fulltime) success will be required.
This is a management position that will report to the Boston-based Director, Graduate Co-op, College of Computer and Information Science. The Seattle-based Asst. Co-op Coordinator and Career Design Specialist will report to this position.
About the Align Program: Align’s mission is to close America’s tech diversity gap. To do so, College of Computer and Information Science is reinventing Computer Science post-graduate education by scaling an innovative Experiential Masters in Computer Science for Non-Computer Science Majors. Scaling Align is a primary initiative of the College. Students who successfully complete the Align two semester bridge courses matriculate into the MSCS program enabling them to seek four, six, or eight-month co-op experiences. More than half of the Align cohort will be women; more than 25% will be underrepresented minorities.
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in recruitment, employer relations or sales, preferably in the high-tech industry. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), attention to detail, research and ability to establish rapport with constituents. Driver’s license and own transportation required.
