The person hired for the position of Mechanical Engineer will….
Provide engineering support and services through project organization and execution. Increase expertise and proficiency in a technical area, including consolidation of skills learned. Establish and control project spending to budget by specifying and estimating project costs. Assume responsibility of leading medium size engineering projects or participates on larger projects where a team approach is utilized.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Management and Execution of Projects. Utilizes knowledge and understanding of the Engineering organization through completion of assigned projects. Utilizes project management skills to organize and execute projects for manufacturing, laboratory and other facilities. Utilizes technical skills, compiling and reviewing information to evaluate project scope, equipment specifications and other project requirements. Develops skills for early identification of issues affecting project success. Assesses alternative methods to solve project-related problems. Establishes and coordinates project time lines with business partners, suppliers and project team. Consults with business partners, suppliers, plant and engineering personnel, as well as the appropriate management regarding project status, timelines, and cost. Reports project implementation and status to appropriate personnel.
Financial Responsibility. Manages financial aspects of assigned projects, including estimating expenditures, contributing to the creation of AFE, purchasing materials and/or services, monitoring and tracking costs, and payment. Utilizes engineering, sourcing and financial systems to stay within established budget guidelines.
Intellectual Property, Regulations, and Compliance. Protects 3M Intellectual Property through the understanding and appropriate use of competitive technology awareness, government regulation awareness, supplier/consultant agreements, records of invention, patents, and technical notebooks. Contributes to the development of proprietary positions. Follows and promotes corporate business conduct, safety, health, and environmental policies and practices, including Engineering guidelines, standards, and specifications. Has working knowledge of local/state/federal/country government codes and regulations as appropriate to the assignment.
Leadership. Establishes a network of resources with multiple disciplines. Provides technical assistance and guidance to subordinates and peers. Participates in and leads teams. Builds a working knowledge of key corporate initiatives and applies appropriate tools. Participates in Engineering Manufacturing Technology Organization (EMTO)/Engineering Manufacturing Technology Chapters (EMTC) activities.
Design, Procurement, Installation, and Commissioning. Utilizes specifications and creates designs of equipment and facilities to coordinate the selection, installation, checkout and startup of new and existing equipment and facilities. Provides accurate project and equipment documentation, such as project cost, schedules, and equipment manuals.
Working with Technical Information. Proficient in using corporate and engineering applications and systems to prepare project information and requirements.

Possess or in the final year of pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Minimum of three (3) years in a manufacturing environment a private, public, government or military environment (Internship and Coop experience included)
Combined experience in a Manufacturing Engineering and/or Quality Engineering position in a private, public, government or military environment (Internship and Coop experience included)
Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Minimum five years in a manufacturing environment in a private, public, government or military environment
Experience working in a cross-functional team
Experience working in global teams
Experience using engineering skills and knowledge of engineering concepts, procedures and methods
Experience with equipment/process/facilities design work, definition of capital equipment needs, equipment fabrication, installation, pre-start up safety review, and commissioning
Experience using analytical, communications, interpersonal, leadership, and short-term planning skills
Knowledge of computer programs and corporate systems relevant to the assigned area of responsibility is normally required
Experience working with partially finished equipment utilizing prior training and awareness to operate safely
Location: Valley, NE
