PURPOSE :

To provide practical hands-on experience in the various Human Resources areas at UHN, AND to be involved in functions that are of interest and value to your career growth.

You will gain valuable experience in an administrative support role in one of these area. Students will be able to pursue personal learning goals in Human Resources while benefiting a worthwhile cause through volunteering their time.

PLACEMENT DESCRIPTION :

Your Internship will provide experience in ONE of the following areas in the Human Resources Department.

Employee Relations :

  • Administrative and project support in the Employee Relations Department

  • Generate statistical reports from an electronic web-based database

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Requirement : Completed majority of HR courses and proficient in Microsoft Excel

Organizational and Employee Development :

  • Support for the Organizational and Employee Development department

  • Posting, support and documentation of staff training in Learning Management System

  • Updating or compiling training documentation, when needed for classroom setup and preparation

  • Other administrative duties as assigned

  • Requirement : Completed Training & Development and Organizational Behaviour course

Payroll Administration/Compensation:

  • Administrative support in the Payroll Department

  • Generate statistical reports from an electronic web-based database

  • File management

  • Human Resources Reception duties as required

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Requirement : Completed Payroll or Compensation course

Recruitment :

  • Support in the Talent Acquisition Department

  • Manage job posting processes and prepare offer packages for new hires

  • Participate in interview panels, job evaluation committees, when possible

  • Assist in HR special projects, when possible or other duties as assigned

  • Requirement: Completed Recruitment & Selection Course

Volunteer Resources :

  • Support in the Volunteer Resources Department

  • Screen and review resumes

  • Conduct volunteer interviews and provide recommendations

  • Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned

  • Requirement : Completed Recruitment & Selection Course

Occupational Health and Safety :

  • Support in the Occupational Health and Safety Department

  • Generate statistical reports from an electronic web-based database

  • Review and update current policies and procedures

  • Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned

  • Requirement : Completed Occupational Health and Safety course

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Previous Office related experience

  • Previous experience in Human Resources is an asset but not mandatory

  • Must have good interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a hospital environment

  • Demonstrates initiative and commitment to learning

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong communications skills, verbal and written

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program focused on Human Resources with a co-op work term

  • (Note that our preferred schools are: George Brown College, Humber College, Seneca College and Sheridan College)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
