This position is to provide a learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a field of study to enhance their future goals and improve their knowledge with work experience in a working environment. This also provides the Service with administrative support in the area of clerical and typing.

Responsibilities

Performing general office support work such as preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents; maintaining office records; locating and compiling data or information from files; compiling information for reports; keeping a calendar and informing other of deadline and other important dates; sorting; scanning, filing documents in an established alphabetical or simple subject-matter filling system; and similar clerical support work within the organization. Included is typing work prepared from written material and/or voice recordings.

This work requires sufficient knowledge of the terminology and procedures of the organization to comprehend and apply guides and instructions covering the assigned tasks. Knowledge of the clerical requirements and processes involved in maintaining the functional programs of an office setting. Good communication skills to interact with co-workers, supervisors, and customers to the Service. Will require a general knowledge of keyboarding for use with word processors, computer terminals, or person computers as tools in completing tasks related to processing actions, records, data, or other information. General knowledge of office equipment, including fax machines, copiers, and scanners.

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program.The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides manager's a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. This opportunity is open to current degree or certificate seeking students at a qualifying educational institution OR to students that have been admitted/accepted for enrollment at a qualifying education institution. You will be required to provide documentation to support your eligibility.

NOTE: You must maintain student eligibility and enrollment for the duration of the internship. If you cannot, you are ineligible for this program. Please review the "REQUIREMENTS" section of this vacancy announcement to ensure that you qualify for this internship.

To be eligible for this internship ALL of the following requirements must be met:

  1. Be a U.S. Citizen;
  2. Be at least 16 years of age;
  3. Enrolled or accepted for enrollment in degree or certificate program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis;
  4. If enrolled, you must be in good academic standing (At least a 2.0 GPA);
  5. Provide current transcript or proof of enrollment/acceptance;
  6. Provide a detailed resume showing your eligibility for this position (please include the month and year for all dates);
  7. Successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment;
  8. Use of Direct Deposit required;
  9. Required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement (this will be signed once student is onboard); and
  10. All requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Grade Requirements:

Education: Completion of high school or GED diploma.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
