Mathematica Business Operations Intern in Princeton, New Jersey

Position Description:

Mathematica Policy Research is a pioneering nonpartisan research organization dedicated to improving public well-being. Our 1,200+ experts conduct policy research, data collection, and data analytics that meet the highest standards of quality and objectivity, working with decision makers across the public and private sectors. Our work spans across policy areas including health care, disability, education, welfare, nutrition, and related topics and is conducted on behalf of federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as private foundations.

We are seeking a dynamic and self-starting person to join the Business Operations team in our Princeton, NJ office for a paid in-semester and/or summer internship. In this role you will help us implement strategic corporate initiatives by conducting needs analyses of individual, team and other stakeholders and recommending targeted learner centric solutions that are aligned to strategic priorities and organizational outcomes. In addition, you will work with the Enterprise Project Management Office within Business Operations to conduct analyses of business data to assess project performance and participate in a variety of project support activities.

You will:

  • Expand your practical knowledge of business practices and organizational dynamics
  • Sharpen your business and analytical skills (e.g. Microsoft Office applications, communication and organizational skills)
  • Observe the life cycle of projects and learn how project performance affects overall business performance
  • Gain experience working with senior-level staff
  • Work with a team of highly-motivated individuals 

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Help develop processes and tools to ensure change owners proactively communicate changes to stakeholder to minimize uncertainty.
  • Conduct needs analysis of individuals, teams, and other stakeholders affected by strategic initiatives
  • Recommend and help develop targeted learner-centric solutions that are aligned to strategic priorities and organizational outcomes
  • Analyze business data and project performance indicators to identify risks and possible interventions to mitigate those risks
  • Work across teams to implement new business processes and conduct a variety of project support activities

Position Requirements:

This internship is appropriate for either an undergraduate or graduate student.  Responsibilities will be adjusted based upon the individual’s qualifications and experience.

  • A minimum of two completed years of undergraduate or graduate studies pursuing a degree in business or public administration, social or industrial/organizational psychology, liberal arts, or related field

  • Demonstrated experience or completed coursework in data analysis; accounting or finance

  • Demonstrated experience or completed coursework using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word

  • Strong organizational skills

  • A keen eye for detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong critical thinking skills

  • The ability to handle multiple priorities, sometimes simultaneously, under deadline pressure

  • The ability to work overtime, as needed

  • Ability to deal diplomatically and tactfully with others
