The Assistant Program Director of the Dietetic Internship (DI) has the responsibility of effectively developing and implementing aspects of a new distance track of the current DI Program at Illinois State University including planning, online delivery, assessment, and evaluation. The Assistant Director will advise and inform prospective students interested in the DI Program requirements at Illinois State University, and the ACEND requirements for becoming eligible to take the registration exam to become an RDN. There will also be an expectation of teaching in the Food, Nutrition and Dietetics program. The Assistant Director will review applications for computer matching, review and approve interns' rotation schedules for ACEND required hours, approve the credentials of preceptors, obtain and maintain affiliation agreements, and develop online preceptor and DI orientation and training programs. The Assistant Director will serve as a liaison for the DI Program to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics including maintaining complete records of DI Program activities for inclusion in reports required by ACEND. The Assistant Director will also assist with ongoing evaluation of the DI Program as set forth in the program self-study. The Assistant DI Director will collaborate with the DI Director, members of the faculty in the Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics program, and members of the Dietetic Internship -- Didactic Program in Dietetics Advisory Committee to ensure the successful development and launch of the new program. This is non-continuous. The initial appointment is through August 15, 2019. Beginning August 16, 2019, we anticipate transitioning the Assistant Director role from an Administrative Professional Non-Continuous to an Instructional Assistant Professor position. THE PROGRAM The current face-to-face Dietetic Internship program at Illinois State University (ISU) is a 21-month experience offered in conjunction with a Master of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. The internship rotation component of the program consists of a minimum of 1,321 hours of supervised practice. Interns gain experiences at six different practice sites with a minimum of two in each of the areas of clinical, community, and foodservice. The Leadership and Project Management concentration provides interns with ample opportunity to put theory into practice. For the culminating experience of the concentration, interns develop their own management styles as they plan, execute, and evaluate their personal leadership project. Current total enrollment in the program is 20 interns with 10 accepted each year. THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of six departments and two schools in the College of Applied Science and Technology (www.cast.illinoisstate.edu). The Department is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) and offers five professional undergraduate programs [Fashion Design and Merchandising; Food, Nutrition and Dietetics; Human Development and Family Science; Interior Design; and FCS Teacher Education]. The department also offers an accelerated master's program (combined bachelor's and master's) and a two-year comprehensive M.S. M.A. program, including a Dietetic Internship sequence and a Child Life option. The FCS Department houses four accredited programs including: undergraduate interior design (CIDA), undergraduate Teacher Education program (NCATE), undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics (ACEND), and a graduate Dietetic Internship (ACEND). The Department has approximately 560 undergraduate and 45 graduate students, 22 full-time and 6 part-time faculty, 1 full-time and 1 part-time academic advisor, 2 civil service personnel, and 4 academic professionals at an affiliated Child Care Center.
