WSP is currently looking for Structural Engineering Interns for our New York, NY office for the Summer of 2019.

This opportunity is available for a college students in good standing working towards a Structural Engineering Degree within an accredited program. The candidate will gain experience in our Transportation Facilities group under direct supervision of the firm's leading engineering professionals.

This internship opportunity would be for approximately 3 months over the student’s summer break (May-August). The candidate will gain experience by being part of a dynamic design team focusing in the implementation of transportation projects located in the New York City area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist more experienced Engineers in broader Engineering activities

  • Perform basic Structural Engineering calculations under supervision of senior engineers

  • Perform routine Engineering functions, such as drawing verification, and basic calculation back checking for accuracy

  • Prepare sketches and drawings using various types of CADD design software

  • Assist with quantity and cost estimates

  • Assist with field work and document field investigation

Job Requirements

  • CURRENT standing as a Junior, Senior, or Graduate student actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering (or related) Undergraduate or Graduate Program. (Those who have already completed degree studies do ­not qualify as candidates for this or any of our internships.)

  • Must have completed basic foundational courses including: Intro to Engineering, AutoCAD, Engineering Drafting course, and Mechanics/Statics

  • Must have completed steel and concrete design courses. Currently taking advanced concrete, steel, foundation, or bridge design courses is preferred

  • Must have completed some courses related to civil engineering including: Highway design, storm water management/water resources engineering, concrete and steel design, foundations design, or bridge design

  • The ability to work in the United States immediately

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum three months of intern experience in civil engineering or civil engineering related field research assistance and have a strong desire to advance technical engineering skills related to civil projects

  • Experience with Microstation, AutoCAD, GIS, REVIT and knowledge of basic engineering theories and principles is required

  • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship
