Position Summary

The Executive Director of Auxiliary Services is responsible for the overall direction, administration, and operation of the Auxiliary Services (AS) unit of Central Michigan University. Recommends policy and procedural changes on all matters relative to AS operations. Auxiliary Services units include Dining Services, CMU Bookstore, Printing Services, Bovee University Center, Vending Services, Auxiliary Operations, Central Card Office, University Events, Events & Conference Services, and budgetary responsibilities for the Office of Residence Life.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree Seven years increasingly relevant professional experience with at least two years in a management position. Demonstrated ability to lead a large and diversified campus service organization. Demonstrated working knowledge of complex budgets. Ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships. Demonstrated ability to project a positive attitude through excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to organize and direct the work activities of others. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree Experience in a higher education environment Experience working effectively with customers (students, faculty/staff, parents and the general public) in a service operations environment. Experience in a unionized environment

Duties & Responsibilities

Plans, develops and implements policies, objectives and procedures related to various functions of Auxiliary Services. Directs the personnel, financial, operational, and educational activities of Auxiliary Services. Responsible for the overall management of an effective employment, orientation, training, and development program for Auxiliary Services employees. Directs the implementation of University policies, including personnel and labor contract provisions within Auxiliary Services. Oversees the liaison effort between Auxiliary Services and the campus community, and the greater Mt. Pleasant community. Coordinates the timely response of inquiries and complaints from public, staff, faculty and students. Directs the budget preparations for Auxiliary Services and recommends Room and Board rates and all other rates and charges. Analyzes and evaluates departmental operating budgets and financial reports and implements necessary operational adjustments. Reviews and recommends to the Vice President/Finance & Administrative Services all capital expenditure requests related to Auxiliary units. Establishes standards of operations that will enable Auxiliary Services to meet its financial obligations. Develops and implements management, policy, and fiscal controls. Analyzes departmental services and work load factors and implements operational adjustments to maximize efficiency. Directs the preparation of special reports and studies for the Vice President/Finance & Administrative Services. Responsible for contract management/liaison for ARAMARK campus dining services. Insures that service contracts are reviewed periodically. Maintains a high degree of visibility in all areas under his/her operational control to facilitate feedback and analyze effectiveness of existing policies and procedures.
