Jacobs is seeking an entry level professional to join our New Jersey Planning Group.
The candidate will assist in the preparation of planning studies, development of data models, environmental assessments and compliance documents, technical reports and public outreach programs.
This includes collection of social, economic and natural resource data to be used in developing and analyzing alternatives under National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations. The candidate will function in a support role on projects and will assist with research and development, report preparation, GIS mapping, data modeling, public and agency outreach, and other tasks.
This position involves working as a part of different teams of people to support a variety of rail and highway infrastructure projects primarily in the Eastern United States. Multi-day travel for on-site field studies may be required several times a year.
BA/BS in Urban Planning/Geography/GIS/Computer Science/Environmental Science or comparable degree is required.
Previous internship is preferred.
Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team of professionals.
Exceptional technical writing and verbal skills.
Ability to process and analyze spatial data utilizing spreadsheets and database software.
Demonstrated proficiency in the GIS toolset for data development and analysis, as well as ability to prepare maps/graphics to support technical documents and public outreach efforts.
Interest in SQL, VBA or Python database development a plus.
Essential Functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
