  • Selects, calculates, and measures intravenous medications using sterile technique

  • Selects and prepares non-sterile medications

  • Label, charge and credit pharmacy IV products

  • Packages IV medications

  • Set-up, utilize and maintain admixture and packaging automation

  • Enters and modifies patient medicaton order in computer

  • Inventory - maintains mediation inventory levels including purchasing, handling back orders, receiving and checking supplies and stock, and replenishing and distributing supplies and stock

  • Unit dose check - checks unit dose medications for accuracy following unit dose and Pyxis fill process

  • Narcotics/stock - select medications and stocks patient care areas and surgical areas with floorstock and narcotics, and audits medications and interacts with managers to solve discrepancies

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Qualification/Skills

Experience

  • 1 year prior experience in pharmacy is required

  • A pharmacy technician training program does not satisfy this requirement

  • Hours documented in a pharmacy technician on the job internship will count toward the 1 year requirement

Skills

  • Ability to read, speak, understand and write in English effectively

  • Requires the performance of math calculations – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and work with algebraeic formulas

  • Is expected to accurately read, transcribe, speak and understand verbal and written pharmaceutical terminology in English

  • Must be able to utilize a computer to perform tasks using PC software, automated dispensing technology and other computer applications

  • Ability to self-motivate and work cooperatively with others as a team, prioritizing work to meet customer needs

Licensure/Certifications

  • Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

  • Minnesota Board of Pharmacy registration as a pharmacy technician - if first registered on/after 1/1/2013, need completion of a MNBOP approved employer based or vocational/technical training program.
