PenFed is hiring a Director of Veteran Talent Acquisition and Employment Initiatives in our headquarters location in McLean, Virginia. In this role, you will conceive, develop, and lead programs to attract, develop, reward, and retain our Veteran and Military Spouse employees. You will have the unique opportunity to accelerate PenFed’s Veterans Initiative, designing and launching new programs that align with military transition initiatives, foster industry best practices, and support our business objectives. In this role, you will serve as champion of our program internally and externally. You will report directly to our Vice President Talent Acquisition and partner with a PenFed Veteran’s Advisory board and senior leaders across the organization to drive results.

Are you ready for the challenge?

  • Develop the path forward. Review all current and recommended programs. Establish short- and long-term plans to drive our Veteran Talent Acquisition and Employment Initiatives forward

  • Lead PenFed’s Veteran’s Advisory Group. Ensure alignment and support across the organization

  • Develop and lead strategic communications, elevating all programs associated with the Initiative, educating PenFed leaders on the benefits of hiring Veterans and Military Spouses

  • Guide the organization, identifying key roles across the organization that capitalize on Veteran and Military Spouse skills and experiences; Educate the organization on military skills translation – aligning the best talent to the right PenFed roles

  • Partner with Sr. Leaders to clearly understand staffing needs (short and long-term business objectives). Develop strategies to support annual hiring goals, targeting Veterans and Military Spouses

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies designed to attract and retain Military Officer level candidates

  • Create and maintain an Internal Veteran and Military Spouse Database, assisting the organization in successfully identifying internal talent for open positions

  • Establish and lead PenFed’s Veteran and Military Spouse Recruiting Team

  • Establish KPIs (key performance indicators). Measure and report results

  • Develop and manage approved Veteran Recruitment and Employment Initiative budget

  • Create, promote and enhance the PenFed Veteran Employment Brand, attracting talent through a variety of recruitment advertising vehicles. Audit, analyze and adjust as appropriate, ensuring ROI

  • Identify and implement tools (i.e. Resume Database Access) and programs (i.e. Apprenticeships, Internships, etc.) necessary to attract, retain and develop Veterans and Military Spouses. Audit, analyze and adjust as appropriate, ensuring ROI

  • Establish external partners (i.e. Military Transition Centers) and recruitment advertising vehicles (i.e. Veteran Specific Job Boards, Events, etc.) to attract and engage qualified Veteran and Military Spouse talent. Audit, analyze and adjust as appropriate, ensuring ROI

  • Partner with Director Talent Acquisition to develop and implement recruitment process enhancements, ensuring best in class Veteran and Military Spouse full-lifecycle recruitment practices

  • Lead efforts to source qualified Veteran and Military Spouse talent

  • Partner with HR Business Partners and Talent Development Team to develop and implement best in class onboarding and assimilation activities, ensuring new Veteran and Military Spouse hires are successfully on board

Education and Experience

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources or related field required, Master’s degree in Business, HR or related field strongly preferred.

  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience; Minimum of 8 years in Human Resources, preferably Recruitment. Experience recruiting Veterans and Military Spouses. Prior military experience strongly preferred

  • Alternatively, a minimum of eight (8) years of military experience can substitute for HR and Recruiting experience; breadth of experience encompassing multiple military assignments and jobs in a CONUS and OCONUS environment preferred

  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills with clear ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including Executives

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple activities with competing priorities

  • Results oriented; Prior success exceeding established goals

  • Highly self-motivated; self-directed leader with passion for the mission, energy and attention to detail to build an extraordinary program, and the drive and determination to exceed the standard

Travel

  • 25-50% travel (i.e. Various PenFed locations, External Partner meetings and Events)
