Highway Design Engineer

JMT has an immediate need for a Highway Design Engineer. The successful candidate will be part of a design team that is engineering a variety of transportation projects including advanced planning and schematic design, as well as preparing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Design production of transportation projects in accordance with good engineering practice
Calculate quantity estimates, developing horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-section development, drainage design, working with digital terrain models, and designing traffic control plans; coordinating and scheduling work to meet project goals on time and budget
Coordinate with engineering design staff and other disciplines to meet project objectives

Ability to write, speak, and communicate clearly in English is a must
Strong time management and ability to prioritize
Working knowledge of Microstation and Geopak is preferred
Working knowledge of hydraulics/hydrology design/analysis a plus
Familiarity with the following software a plus:
HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SureTrak, Open Roads (3D) or other 3D modeling software
Candidates should be proficient with Microsoft Office Software, including Word, Excel and Outlook
Bachelors of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering curriculum required
Engineer-In-Training certification, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire, is required
Previous transportation experience (including internships) is preferred (Ideal candidate has between 0-4 years of related experience)
Previous work experience with TxDOT projects a plus
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
