Facebook is seeking a Critical Facility Engineering Intern to join our data center operations team this fall. Our data centers serve as the foundation upon which our software operates to meet the demands of our customers. The data center Critical Facility Engineering Intern will work with the Facilities Operations team to facilitate operating and maintaining the data center. The intern candidate will need to be actively engaged in a field of study including electrical, mechanical, controls, and/or related facilities maintenance trades. The intern will learn about and work on projects related to electrical generation, electrical distribution, cooling technologies, fire suppression systems, and building management (automation and controls) systems.

Required Skills:

  1. Ability and willingness to work at a remote data center site in a different geographic location than the college or trade school

  2. Ability to travel regionally (less than 10%)

  3. Physical ability to walk job sites in uneven terrain

  4. Provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits away from the office

  5. Maintain a positive and professional working relationship in a team environment

  6. Complete basic electrical and mechanical safety awareness training

  7. Take responsibility for assigned projects over the duration of the internship and provide a debrief on results of the project effort (project to be provided by site operations team)

  8. Learn the basics of maintenance and operations for a critical data center environment for mechanical/HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other related systems

  9. Develop Basic Skills for Data Center Facilities Systems Operation and Maintenance

  10. Learn basics for routine maintenance tasks in accordance with Facebook Safety Policy and Procedures

  11. Inspect buildings, grounds and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions

  12. Troubleshoot, evaluate and recommend system upgrades

  13. Work with vendors and contractors to ensure their work meets Facebook standards

  14. Perform all maintenance to ensure the highest level of efficiency without disruption to the business

  15. Accurate and timely completion of work order requests

  16. Escalate issues to Manager as needed

  17. Ability to work at heights and from ladders

  18. Ability to work in an environment where heavy lifting, climbing and a high degree of dexterity is required

  19. Regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Enrolled in technical/vocational curriculum at a community college or technical school, working towards an associates or higher level degree. Areas of study can include: Diesel Equipment Technology, Electrical Trades, Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Machine Tool Technology, or Plumbing and Gas Fitting.

  3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

  4. Knowledge of electrical, mechanical/HVAC, piping, and related building systems.

  5. Experience interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings, specs, procedures, and carrying out other duties as assign.
