CenturyLink’s internship program is a 10 week, fast-paced and exciting opportunity to gain professional experience within your field of study. Interns within the Product Development and Technology department will be challenged to apply their knowledge gained in the classroom to real world problems. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience working on real world Innovation Initiatives for a Fortune 500 company. This position will allow students to utilize their talents and abilities to innovate on products that are tied to active projects at CenturyLink. In this role the Intern will work within the Data Strategy and Virtual Services Development team and will be challenged to apply their knowledge gained in the classroom to real world problems. Interns will work closely with Lead and Principal network architects and be "hands on" with new technologies, new products, and new efforts to operationalize our Virtual Services infrastructure (NFV, Cloud, and Metal based), from conception to development, handing off to Testing and Operations.
For the role, the candidate will assist with prototype and pilot efforts in Edge Compute, including mostly operation evolution and automation of Ops Tasks as well as new functionality in “Edge” network integration. The candidate should have a good understanding of network protocols, processes, and architecture, including IP, MPLS, ethernet, and VLAN/VxLAN technologies. Some experience with systems virtualization (Vmware, KVM, Openstack, Linux Containers, etc.) would be beneficial.
The candidate should bring knowledge and skills, with an open mind and the ability to be part of a fast moving and ever-changing evolution to virtual services. This job requires more flexibility and "how to think" adaptability than "what you know".
• Working knowledge of software development methodologies, standards and coding best practices
• Experience with Applications including but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Microsoft SharePoint
• Experience with various Operating Systems
• Previous internship/work experience within the IT field

• Pursing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in an IT-related degree program such as CIS or Computer Science, Engineering
• Currently enrolled at a 4-year accredited College or University
• 3.0 or above cumulative GPA
