VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center is a 24/7 emergency and specialty practice in Lawndale, California—located in the heart of L.A.’s South Bay.

Advanced Veterinary Care Center (AVCC) at http://https://vcahospitals.com/advanced-veterinary-care-center-ca is a multi-specialty referral and emergency veterinary hospital serving pet owners and referring veterinarians throughout Southern California. Our mission is to provide high quality, compassionate care to our patients and exceptional service to referring veterinarians and pet owners.

We are seeking a Criticalist or experienced Emergency Veterinarian, to join our busy Emergency Department. As a specialty referral hospital, we are dedicated to providing the best care to our patients and clients. Our multi-doctor practice provides premiere care in Cardiology, Internal Medicine and Surgery. We are seeking doctors who can help grow our emergency practice to the same level as our other specialties. If you are passionate about emergency medicine, enjoy having the support and assistance of boarded specialists, excel at client communication and providing compassionate care to pets in need, then this is the practice for you!

We are seeking emergency doctors with 2-5 years of experience and/or a critical care residency/boarded applicants. Our practice is located in Lawndale, California - “the Heart of the South bay”, and centrally located in beautiful Southern California.

The Emergency and Critical Care Specialist or Emergency Associate —under the guidance of the Medical Director and with the support of the Regional Medical Director—carries out VCA’s promise to our clients: making their pet’s health our top priority and excellent service our goal.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university.

  • Licensure in good standing to practice in the state in which applicant is to be employed.

  • Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, friendly attitude.

  • The ability to make decisions and communicate clearly and effectively with fellow team members.

  • Respect for and willingness to work with clients and their pets.

  • A commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine, upholding the veterinary code of ethics.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop a rapport with clients and determine their needs and wishes in a way that will deliver the highest quality care while minimizing patient stress and discomfort; recommend referral to another VCA doctor or specialist when this is likely to significantly improve the prognosis.

  • Explain physical examination findings and communicate to the client a diagnosis of the pet’s problems; generate and present a treatment plan for the pet to the client.

  • Maintain client/patient medical/surgical records and make certain all necessary logs are kept up-to-date through established protocols; assist colleagues in follow-up and future management of the patient.

  • Stay up-to-date with new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine, fulfill VCA requirements for attending local VCA Continuing Education meetings and complete at least 30 hours of accredited CE per year.

  • Assist in the development of the paraprofessional team to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care and exceptional client service.

  • Positively represent the hospital and VCA in the professional community and to the general public.
