The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) will protect, preserve, and promote the health and safety of the people of Michigan, with particular attention to providing for the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations. MDHHS is one of the largest of the executive branch departments. MDHHS is responsible for health policy and management of the state's health, mental health, and substance use care systems. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General is seeking an intern to work beginning the Fall 2018 semester (September through December 2018.)

The intern responsibilities and projects may include learning from Agents and Analysts, and assisting with the following:

  • Research, identify and determine if recipients, business entities or Medicaid providers fraudulently received (or were issued) entitlement program funds administered by the MDHHS
  • Accompany and assist Agents and Analysts who are conducting field investigations or audit vendor oversight activities
  • Prepare for and attend Administrative, Felony Court and/or Appeal proceedings
  • Perform data analysis and/or utilize available data and other information to support fraud allegations
  • Use various forms of communication between State departments and agencies to resolve fraud allegations for recovery of misspent program funds Required Education and Experience

Internship is open to current junior or senior Undergraduates with a major in a Health Profession, Criminal Justice, and/or Accounting/Auditing.
