This position is year round. The work schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the students' schedule. This is an engineering internship established to attract and train qualified applicants interested in a career with the Coast Guard. The position is at the Coast Guard's shipyard in Baltimore, MD will provide practical hands on engineering experience, job related training and mentoring to support professional growth. Successful completion of the internship may lead to non-competitive appointment as permanent full time Coast Guard employee.

Preparing engineering designs, drawings, plans and specifications associated with the construction, modernization, overhaul, conversion, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of vessels.
Using computer aided design (CAD) equipment and conventional hand drafting methods to create new drawings or modifying existing drawings.
Performing inspections to gather design information for plan specifications.
Preparing preliminary specifications, statements of work, or other documents required to define shipyard work or procurements for review.

Interns with no previous related experience or education may qualify at the completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.
