Job Summary: The Perioperative Registered Nurse directs and manages the care of designated operative patients as assigned to any LVHN perioperative facility; Cedar Crest, Muhlenberg, 17th St., Fairgrounds Surgery Center or Tilghman St.(Rotation to multiple sites required). The circulating RN will perform an ongoing patient assessment, create and maintain a safe environment, and implement and enforce all policies and procedures. The RN utilizes effective and appropriate communication styles to coordinate nursing care with other health care team members for each patient. The scrub role can be assumed by a Registered Nurse educated in the scrub role whose actions are based on the nursing process. The RN has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. The RN has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. The RN handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. At no time should the RN perform duties which may have the potential to sever, puncture, manipulate or alter tissue in any way.
Minimum Requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current operating room experience or completion of perioperative internship program.
